Studies Molecular Levels Of Biology

Posted in Biology on March 6th, 2012 by admin – Comments Off

The study of biology at a molecular level is known as Molecular biology. The term molecular biology as defined by William Astbury in his book ‘Nature 190′, is “… not so much a technique as an approach, an approach from the viewpoint of the so-called basic sciences with the leading idea of searching below the large-scale manifestations of classical biology for the corresponding molecular plan. It is concerned particularly with the forms of biological molecules and….. is predominantly three-dimensional and structural – which does not mean, however, that it is merely a refinement of morphology – it must at the same time inquire into genesis and function” (W.T. Astbury, Nature 190, 1124. 1961)

Research in molecular biology is helping us uncover the mysteries of the human body, viruses, as well as bacteria and other life forms. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it is the advent of microbiology that has enabled us to envision finding cures for diseases that were once incurable. It is not surprising under the circumstances that scientists aim to remove every disease that is caught from the face of the earth.

The Support Of Online High School Biology

Posted in Biology on February 21st, 2012 by admin – Comments Off

This year my son is studying High School Biology in our homeschool.  He really does not enjoy science so I’ve been scouring the web looking for ways of making it more fun and interesting. Something that we don’t have to fight about doing.

I found this wonderful blog by a mother who wrote her lesson plans out to share with others and it has really helped us a great deal this year.  Learning Lifestyles uses living books for this biology course and I have to say that they are really enjoyable to read… well, as far as biology books go that is.  She also has links to biology lab ideas as well.  She also suggests movies and videos that go well with the course.

Another website I have found useful is Cells Alive!.  It has slideshows of topics of cells such as the cell cycle, and mitosis and meiosis with a quiz to check your knowledge.
