I was when asked, alongside with a group of other men and women, what scientific and social developments would be created in the long term.  When pressed about how far into the foreseeable future, they stated a million years.  Ok…. so let us see where the aged train of believed goes on this 1.  Here is how I responded:

The Future of Work is a business book written by Thomas Malone.  Through his experience as a Professor of Management at MIT Sloan School of Management and the founding director of numerous MIT organizations, Malone has come up with a way to revolutionize all organizations for a better, more decentralized workforce.  In the business world today many organizations seem to believe that decisions should be made by top ranking CEO’s, managers, etc.  However, Malone believes that if we start allowing all levels of people involved in the organization to have a say so that we can change the future of work.

The book has one primary focus: decentralization.  In this book, decentralization is defined as ‘the participation of people making the decisions that matter to them.’  In even simpler terms, it’s about giving the people more freedom.  More freedom can be given through loose hierarchies, democracies and markets.  The amount of freedom ranges within each structure.

In one year Terrence Watanabe lost 7 million in one of Las Vegas’ many casinos. Watanabe was on a gambling spree caused by greed and fuelled by addiction. He did not want to take responsibility for his actions so he sued the casino for encouraging his lust for wealth. Watanabe is a microcosm of our global society. A German social psychologist, Erich Fromm remarks that “Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.”

The problems with capitalism and global warming come about because of humanity’s lust for wealth. Population will continue to spiral unless given incentives to reverse the trend. This will contribute to overpopulation and mass famine in parts of the world. The prospects of humankind are reliant on humanity’s ability to overcome their natural instincts of greed, selfishness and self serving nature. Capitalism, humanity’s continued struggle for wealth, and population all contribute to a bubble, soon to burst if not deflated, that represents human kind’s quality of life.
