Home school movement is a new feature in imparting education to our children. Parents and guardians gradually has begun to learn that their children are not receiving proper attention and care in the schools and that they are being brought up with more vices than values. They also have begun to estimate that the children are even not learning the three Rs in due time and that they do not find enough spaces to open their mind. Naturally persons in the form of crippled personalities are moving from Chicago to London or from Paris to Venice. The parents and guardians have reached to the apprehension that time, money and energy afforded so far for the education of the children are going to form thousands of inland drainage which are sure to move to the desert.

If we try to go to the very old days of India removing the accumulated dusts that have made those sunny days nebulous to our vision, we will find a few fortunate learners from different parts of the region sit encircling one aged and bearded person, their respected teacher. They used to sit under a huge tree which provides kind shade to all who did gather there to know what the truth behind everything they notice around was. Those learners were lucky and they belonged to the upper run of the society as most of the children in those days were not allowed to have education through the existing community standard in those days.

We should remember that there was a system of imparting education to the children in the monasteries in different parts of the world, The Christian world in Europe, the Buddhist missions in India and the Islam-occupied Baghdad had left great instances behind.

In the nineteenth century persons like Rabindranath Tagore in India and Leo Tolstoy in Russia have received home school learning. They were very few in number and really they were simply the microscopic and fortunate few. In the twentieth century such rare examples were fewer.

Human beings are sure to learn even if any machinery for this purpose works or not. All through the ages human beings have learned and learned and learned and they have been in the learning process generally away from the compulsion of the rulers of the soil. But at present we have developed such machinery as may help the children to have education with fewer difficulties. And the development of the home school move has stemmed from the fact that performance in the current system has been marked unsatisfied. The fundamental reason for this is the control of the rulers who provide the scope for the learners and spend some money from the exchequer and control the total task through a number of agents and offices. Up to this one may not have a word to express annoyance. The very purpose of the rulers of the state is to develop people that will always favor them and the lawful and illegal and ethical and non-ethical activities of the rulers to promote the evils are ignored generally. It is true that a huge amount of money and very good machinery are required to impart knowledge to the millions in our time. Here lies the contradiction. The rulers need their people and they will invest and support the program until everything will support their target. But human beings want freedom and freedom in the sphere of learning too. The dreadful contradiction in this sphere has also prompted people to work for the home school program.

The home school programs seem to be the future course of events in the sphere of education. People in the USA and UK and also in some parts of Europe and sometimes in a country like India want to contribute in this field. Increase in the number of the distant education or national open schools in different countries and emergence of responsible watchers’ body may usher a new era. Hence let us open all the windows and wind and light will come inside and will come definitely.

There is a difference in the home school curriculum as it also has the ability to integrate your personal moral and religious beliefs. This is something which no other person but you can inculcate in your child. When you manage your child’s education at home, you can outline your child’s value much better.

You may not have a college or a teaching degree for homescooling. It is a big task to teach your own kids but the education they get from a parent who is concerned will be much better than what they will get in any public school. If you find some subjects tough you can employ a tutor for them.

There are two attributes which you must have if you want your kid to do well in home school. You must have the wish to teach your kids and be determined to be successful at homeschooling. Effort and desire are the only two things which one needs for home schooling the children and this will assist the child to get an education which will surpass any classroom. A parent can be a very good teacher if want their kids to learn.

One of the biggest problems faced by several parents is not being confident of their teaching ability. It is true that teachers in school are well trained before they can teach children but most of the parents are not trained for this. This does not have to be the deciding factor.

It may surprise you to see your effectiveness as a child’s teacher and you will not have to face any of the problems faced by school teachers. Teachers in school have to manage the behavior and learning style of different children who may have disciplinary issues. You have to manage just your child or children as a homeschool teacher and not kids from different backgrounds.

School teachers have to follow the prescribed curriculum in the public classroom, and use materials which have been approved by the system. They have a finish the course even if some children are slow and may not be able to keep up. As a home school teacher you can teach at your own pace and ensure that the child has learnt the portion before moving on.

The time you give for homeschooling is also very important as a school teacher has to start and finish at fixed times. You at home can adjust according to the child’s learning abilities. You will also find it easier to make the child understand on one to one basis and go more into depth of the subject. When you finish lessons fast you will have more free time for other activities.

You can go online and get more ideas and ways to teach. There is a lot of information on home school material, accredited home school, Christian home school program etc. Don’t even think that you can’t do it. With so many resources, forums, online home schooling groups as well as your effort and desire, you will be able to assist your child in accomplishing a very brighter future.

Home school parents usually find themselves spending a lot of time in the car, going to and from piano lessons, sports, scouts, co-ops and more. Use your time in the car with your kids to get some homeschooled work in. Here are 20 great ideas to make drive time into school time.

1. Spelling test- If you are in the habit of giving your child weekly spelling words, drive time can be a great time to test them. A good idea is to pick a day that you drive to the same place every week on that day, like Tuesday piano class for example. Tuesday can become test day. You can practice spelling words on car rides the other days of the week.

2. Pledge of Allegiance- You don’t have to be staring at the flag to practice the pledge of allegiance and this is a great time to memorize it, I’m sure you will end up driving by a flag while you’re saying it anyway.

3. Songs to memorize-turn the radio off and memorize songs for music class time. Practice songs your kids need to know for scouts like the make new friend’s song or Sunday school songs, your kids will be more confident around the other kids if they know the words to those songs!

4. Counting objects- have your kids practice their counting skills by telling them to count a certain object, for younger kids you might want to choose something they won’t have to count too fast, older kids can practice counting objects that go by faster

5. Books on CD- listening to books is proven to help children with vocabulary, improve listening skills and can help a family bond. Sometimes it is challenging to find time to read long books (Harry Potter, Huckleberry Finn, etc.) so audio books can be a great resource and your library is sure to have a large collection for you to borrow.

6. Foreign Language practice- Is your child learning a new language? Use car time to practice flash cards, play study games, or listen to a book in the chosen language.

7. Math Facts- Math drills can easily be done in the car even on short car trips, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division can all be practiced in the car saving time you would normally spend on this at home.

8. Presidents- most eight graders have to learn the last names of the presidents in order, although you do not have to do this in eighth grade when home schooling, when you do decide to have your child to learn the names of the presidents, the car is a great place to practice

9. Oral book reports- this should be self explanatory

10. Classical composers- CD’s like Beethoven’s wig, Mr. Bach comes to call and all the classical kids series are wonderful ways to not only listen to classical music but also about the famous composers who created it. Beethoven’s wig put s funny words laced with facts to the music making learning fun.

11. Right and left- driving is a great time to teach your child right and left, at each turn announce whether you are making a right or left turn. After awhile ask them to tell you which way you turned.

12. Opposites- take a few minutes of your ride to give your child some examples of opposites, and then ask them to tell you an opposite such as if it is a sunny day ask them what the opposite would be, a cloudy day.

13. vocabulary review- have your child review their vocabulary words from their textbooks during car rides

14. States and capitals- test your child and then let them test you!

15. ABC’s- if you have young children use every opportunity to practice this all important song, especially drive time.

16. Find items that begin with each letter of the alphabet in order- see if you can get through the whole alphabet before you arrive at your destination. Great practice for beginning readers

17. Memorize the elements of the periodic t able- self explanatory

18. reading aloud- have older kids read aloud

19. Bible memory verses- a good trick is to have the memory verse wrote on an index card and taped to your steering wheel or sun visor, get in the habit of saying the verse aloud with your children every time you get in the car before you start the engine.

20. Identifying road signs- have your child look for various road signs and discuss what they mean; by the time they are old enough to drive they will pass that part of the driving test with flying colors!

Time is valuable as home school parents know, so make the most of your drive time with your kids!

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the two are quite similar and students can gain a great deal of knowledge in a mixed age classroom. Students in one room schools are mixed by age and learning level. Likewise, in a home school setting siblings could range in age from 5 to 18. Mixed age classrooms promote a place for the older students to become leaders. It is obvious that the mother in a home school setting or the schoolmaster in a one room school cannot instruct everyone at the same time all day long. Therefore, the older students have an opportunity to help the younger students. The younger students develop respect while the older students become leaders in the classroom. This fosters lifelong skills that only students in one room classrooms or those who are being home schooled can develop through their daily education (Pudewa, 2008).

With home schooling and one room schooling there is no way to hide in the back of the room as students in public school try to do today. Mothers and schoolmasters are always aware of the involvement of the students and expect their participation in the learning process each day. Some public schools expect little out of students. I have had many students tell me that their high school teachers failed to challenge them. Therefore, they were tempted to skip class. As a result, some even dropped out or were expelled from school because they felt as if they were lost in the system.

What are your feelings on public schools adopting some of the ideals of one room school teaching and home schooling?

Now a days with the way the world seems to be getting more and more people are making the decision to home school their kids. I am one of them I am in the stages of getting things ready to where I will be able to home school my kids.

I have 5 kids ages 10,8,7,5 & 4months. I have 2 in 3rd grade, 1 in 1st grade and one stiil in preschool. I am going to let my kids go to public school for another year so that I can prepare and have everything in place to be able to teach them properly.
